FROM PARK HOMES BY WILLERBY

Willerby, the UK’s largest manufacturer of holiday homes and lodges, launches into the residential park home arena this year, with homes built under a new brand, Park Homes by Willerby. Three homes have been unveiled to the public with plans for more. The Hazlewood, Charnwood and Delamere each have different characters and styles, as we discovered.

Delamere

The Delamere breaks new ground in size as well as market: this is the biggest unit ever made by Willerby, at 50ft long and 22ft wide.

An entrance hall with a touch of opulent, yet modern, style welcomes you to the Delamere. Directly opposite the door, the first feature that you see is a circular mirror set into a gold-coloured frame, in its own recess with a background of abstract artwork design which suggests white birch trees in autumn. It’s utterly stunning and sets the tone for the Delamere’s impressive styling throughout.

Two tall windows are set into the wall between the hallway and the dining room, ensuring that both areas benefit from extra light. The dining room ceiling is architecturally impressive, semi-vaulted, with angles and slants, giving the room a futuristic aspect.

Double doors lead from here into the lounge; they’re wooden framed glass doors, so they create a semi-open plan aspect even when they’re closed, making the lounge a totally separate room.

The lounge runs the full width of the property. Like the dining area, large windows ensure lightness and brightness.

A wood-burner electric fire nestles in a pleasingly plain fireplace.

Two pendant lights with filament LEDs are awesome in styling. We had to turn to geometry to describe the shape of the open lightshade – they’re icosahedrons, and they’re stunning in their simplicity.

The kitchen is L-shaped and spacious. The units in the prototype which we review here are gloss white and very minimalist in style – we love them but, if you disagree with our enthusiasm for them, you can choose from a huge range.

The Delamere has both a utility room and a study.

A padded velvet headboard, a shaker-style dressing table and amazing filigree light shades define the main bedroom.

The en suite has a huge shower cubicle that has both drench and directional showers. Alongside is a walk-in dressing room with loads of hanging space, shelves and drawers.

The second bedroom has a wide box-bay window, a stunning sloping ceiling and a window over the bed. Shaker-style bedside cabinets and a sizeable wardrobe hide away plenty of stuff; the Delamere’s storage capability, overall, is impressive.

Hazlewood

An open-plan lounge-dining area, a slightly traditional choice of fabrics and furnishings and angled bay windows characterise the Hazlewood.

This 40ft x 20ft home, designed with affordability as its keynote, has a very homely feel, with a colour palette of soft fawns and creams.

The lounge-dining space is L-shaped, with three bay windows and a log-effect fire. Three big pendant ceiling lights are stunning – cylindrical shades with exteriors of pale grey and interiors of rich, glowing copper, injecting warmth into the décor.

A two-seater settee and two chairs upholstered in plain fawn, tactile, slightly ridged, velvety fabric, are rather traditional in style and very comfortable; we love the squashy bolsters on each side of the settee!

The first element of this home’s kitchen to catch my eyes is the pale grey-fawn driftwood pattern of the surface – introducing a seaside-meets-country theme. The kitchen is galley style, leading to a corridor; from here you can return to the hall or exit through the back door. Gloss grey units provide plenty of storage. A pattern of small grey horizontally-aligned tiles creates style and practicality on both sides of the kitchen. The sink, fridge-freezer and dishwasher are on the window side of the kitchen, with the hob and larger amount of work surface opposite. The oven-grill is housed in the centre of the wall of units at the end of the kitchen.

Both the Hazlewood’s bedrooms are of approximately the same size.

The main bedroom has a shower en suite and a desk-style dressing table. Both rooms have large wardrobes.

Muted plum shade is used in both bedrooms. In the main bedroom there’s a stool upholstered in this fabric, plus the edging of the bedhead; a padded area is inset, upholstered in a leaf-and-twig cream fabric matching the curtains. It’s a softly classic look.

The second bedroom gets a bolder look, with the muted plum colour upholstering the entire bedhead. The same shade is used for the curtains, cushions and a bed sash matching. Pastel mauve wallpaper defines the wall behind the bedhead. We love
this bedroom!

The Hazlewood’s bathroom colour scheme is palest fawns and creams, with matt tiles to waist height around the centre of the room. Four bright LEDs set into the ceiling ensure it’s a bright room after dark.

Charnwood

The Charnwood makes a bold décor statement of dark blue, greys and white. This 42ft x 20ft home will appeal to buyers with modern tastes.

In terms of layout, the home is effectively divided into two sections by the corridor which leads from the smart dark grey front door with inset windows. The corridor leads across the home into the utility area and on, to the rear door. Two large cupboards, one with shelves, the other containing coat hooks, are in the hallway. Plenty of practicality, then!

A clear division between the lounge and dining functions of the Charnwood will ensure its appeal to buyers who don’t favour complete open plan. The lounge is large, and the three box-bay windows make it feel even more spacious. The windowsills are easily large enough to use as window seats; another feature we love.

The grey three-piece suite looks very attractive, in a plainly simple way, against the pale grey backcloth; the walls are in two shades grey – a slightly darker covering defines the wall that separates the lounge from the dining area and kitchen beyond. It’s the dark blue curtains and cushions, though, that are the style statement of the Charnwood, with a bold embroidered pattern of leaves and twigs. Two pale copper-shade pendant lights look gorgeous.

The bold look of the Charnwood continues in the choice of furniture – the coffee table, large TV unit and dining table are heavy, high quality, dark oak. The whole scheme looks stunning.

You can upgrade the kitchen in any of the three Park Homes by Willerby (take your choice from the Magnet range) but the standard choice in the Charnwood is a delight; pale matt grey units with chunky brushed steel handles. A glass splash-back sits behind the four-burner hob, which has a brushed steel base and a pan trivet divided into two sections, for easy cleaning. A third, coronet-shaped trivet is here to sit on the largest burner which is designed for a wok.

The Charnwood’s cooking function is on one side of the kitchen, with the oven-grill to the left of the hob and main work surface. Opposite, the sink is flanked by more surface area. A dishwasher is on this side of the kitchen. The kitchen has five lower cupboards and five top cabinets plus more storage in a utility area. Here, a washing machine and fridge-freezer are disguised with a wall of cabinets. There’s more work surface here; the Charnwood’s surface and storage area is very generous. It’s a well-planned kitchen with three distinct areas.

The blue theme that establishes the character of the Charnwood as you step into the lounge makes a bold statement in the bedrooms. In the master bedroom, with a large shower en suite and two large wardrobes, the bedhead wall is papered in a soft dark blue shade with a slightly raised pattern that catches the light from the four spotlights that focus down on the bedhead area.

The bedhead is upholstered in brighter blue, velvet – and it’s gorgeous. The same fabric upholsters a large cube stool for the desk-style dressing table. White and blue curtains, bed sash and cushions compete with ultra modern, luxurious look.

The other bedroom has a walk-in dressing room with two rails, upper shelving and five shelves along one side.

The bathroom, with circular plinth washbasin and cabinet with mirrored doors, is fully tiled with a matt pale grey finish. Everywhere you look in the Charnwood the over-riding message is modernity, style and quality of finish.
