Park Home Review: Wessex Dorset

7c5e8730-5847-4434-a72a-4643aaad1603

The Dorset’s layout is straightforward: half of the home is devoted to the lounge-dining-kitchen function and half to the bedrooms and bathrooms area. The lovely, spacious open-plan lounge-dining area wraps around the kitchen.

What’s special here is that the kitchen is a totally separate room, almost galley style, with units running along both sides. One end opens into the dining room. The other end opens into a layout feature of the Dorset that makes this home very different. It’s what Wessex terms the ’boot room’ (brilliantly practical, with storage cupboard, a coat rack and plenty of space to take off and put on boots – and to wipe muddy canine paws! In turn, the boot room leads straight off the hallway, which runs along the centre of the home, dividing the entire day function from the very separate bedroom-bathroom area.

Kitchen

The units are an appealing warm champagne slightly metallic finish, with bold, brushed steel handles. Integrated appliances include an electric oven, fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and hob with extractor hood. Plenty of storage space is provided by a range of cabinets and drawers. The accent colour is stunning, rich mulberry pink, slightly reminiscent of peony flowers – for the splash-back behind the hob and for the tartan-inspired open check pattern in the Roman-style blind.

Dining area

The wood laminate flooring of the kitchen gives way to carpet, in a shade called ‘almond’, as you step through the archway into the dining room. The dining table and sideboard are light oak. High-backed, well-rounded dining chairs are deeply upholstered in a soft mulberry shade that carries the Dorset’s stunning colour theme through from the kitchen and on, into the lounge…

Lounge

Two armchairs in purple, and cushions of the same shade on a cream sofa give the lounge a softly modern character. The very on-trend use of tartan-inspired pattern for the curtains continues in the lounge. Ivory shade for the walls, white for the ceiling… A black granite plinth and neat, plain white fireplace surrounding a flame-effect fire… This is a lovely, relaxing lounge environment.

Along with tartan, the Dorset’s décor employs another on-trend theme: copper. Pendant lights hang over the lounge and dining table and an angle-lamp emphasises the theme on a coffee table.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

The generously-sized master bedroom spans the width of the home and encompasses a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite. Soft greys, oatmeal and pale oak are the décor keynotes in the bedrooms, plus more of that gorgeous mulberry pink shade, in cushions and the Roman-style blind in the en suite to the main bedroom. Cabinets and dressing tables are shaker-style.

The bathroom, with over-bath shower, is in oatmeal shades. The en suite has a large shower cubicle – with a towel rail perfectly positioned on one side.

The Dorset is available in a range of standard floor plans from 36ft x 20ft to 50ft x 20ft layouts can be altered to suit your requirements. The Wessex Bespoke Design Service team can guide you on ways in which you can have your own unique home created for you.
