Park Home Review: The Lancashire Rose

Red Rose Park Homes has a portfolio of nine designs. The latest model is a sophisticated, luxurious home stacked with well-planned storage elements

The latest creation from Lancashire residential park home builder Red Rose, named after the historic emblem of its county, is a stunningly modern residence with many elegant style elements, an unusual layout and an enormous kitchen.

What makes the Lancashire Rose's layout special is the lounge is totally separate from all other elements of the layout. This room has its own cosy character. Yet it's integrated with the dining area by double glass doors, giving a suggestion of open-plan when you want it.

The first impression of this Georgian-windowed, pale grey exterior home is its size. We entered initially via the utility room; we could have taken our first step inside to the spacious hallway.

Three stained-glass red roses built into windows in the door make the Red Rose statement clearly – and the statement's clear throughout, too, as we explore; Red Rose park homes are known for innovative layouts and for high quality.

We begin to get to know the Lancashire Rose, first in the kitchen.

Kitchen

The utility room and the kitchen have fawn marble tiles and gloss cream units. The space is vast, so the top-quality floor tiles are a key element of the décor.

Its kitchen is rectangular, with banks of cabinets and drawers arranged in an L-shape and along the wall which separates the kitchen from the lounge. Eight large drawers and seven large cabinets, plus six wall cabinets make this among the best kitchens we've seen in terms of storage capability.

Violet Welch, who runs Red Rose Homes with her husband Jimmy, has told me previously that, in designing homes, she keeps in mind the importance of storage space as a key element of the layout, and this home is a prime example of that ethos.

Kitchen appliances are a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, oven, grill, microwave and five-burner hob.

And there's a surprise: a built-in coffee machine – luxury comes in loads of forms in the Lancashire Rose! All the appliances are by Caple, part of the Bosch group.

The sink and drainer are white porcelain – utterly lovely in terms of both aesthetics and practicality.

Eight spotlights are set into the ceiling. Lights are under the wall units and under the base units; these reflect in the gloss white of the unit doors, enhancing even further the amount of light generated. There are eight mains sockets; wherever you wanted to use whatever, there's a socket for it!

Dining area

The Lancashire Rose dining areaThe dining table is one of the bold statements of the Lancashire Rose, a fantastic, elegant marble construction on a big monopod base. Comfortable cream leather dining chairs add to the luxury, sophisticated character here.

Lounge

The Lancashire Rose loungeMore of the elegant marble defines the lounge, too; there are three coffee tables, all the same awesome design as the dining table.

Sumptuous sofas and an armchair in cream tactile fabric that catches the light from the lounge's three large windows look invitingly comfortable.

But, I choose to sit on one of the two deep bay windowsills, laptop on lap, to compose these words; the ample quantities of cushions are plumped for the photos we're about to take and I don't want to disturb them! Anyway the window 'seat' gives the room dimension!

Hallway

The hallway is separated from the lounge by double glass doors. A walk-in cloak cupboard, and plenty of open space, are keynotes in the hallway, as is an unusual rounded corner wall leading to the corridor that takes you to the bedrooms and bathroom.

Bathroom

The Lancashire Rose bathroomA ladder style radiator takes care of towel drying and warming. Its raised bath with drench-and-directional showers grabs the attention first.

Then the floor-to-ceiling fawn tiles and then granite-effect surface into which the washbasin is half set – a lovely, unusual design – then the lights set into the mirror that come on in response to you passing your hand near, not on, the switch… This is veritable bathroom luxury!

Main bedroom

The Lancashire Rose main bedroomSliding doors lead to a walk-in cupboard containing 12 shelf spaces. Beautifully crafted palest grey-cream furniture create a calmly modern bedroom look.

A shower en suite, in the same style as the main bathroom, with the same drench-plus-directional shower, looks lovely.

Second bedroom

The second bedroom is in the same style, with the same statement smoky and opaque glass wardrobe doors. Like the main bedroom, a big box-bay window increases the look and feel of space.

Our view

Space, storage, comfort and luxury – all those boxes get firm ticks. We adore the marble tables, the vast kitchen and the slightly ornate style statement of the chrome five-point pendant light over the dining table.

The Lancashire Rose is a home of immense character, of definite elegance and of superior looks.
