Holiday Home Review: Willerby Skye

65938d83-e0af-4de4-a383-d97d2a108616

Willerby conceived their latest holiday home due to rising demand for family holidays in Britain. They designed the Skye with multi-generation holidays in mind.

This is how the Skye accommodates its families. With a large, integrated, open-plan living space containing the lounge, dining area and kitchen. There’s a choice of two and three bedroom models (all 12 feet wide) which can sleep up to eight. You can transform the lounge into a bedroom. And there are lots of options so that you can personalise your Skye according to your needs and budget.

Willerby launched the Skye this summer. PHHI went to the factory before Willerby unveiled the holiday home as the first Skye models rolled off the production line. The model we’re reviewing is the largest, the two-bedroomed, 38ft version. It’s
complete with some of the options available. These include opening French doors or, depending on your plot, you could go for a non-opening floor-to-ceiling window.

You can opt for full central heating. A stylish coal-effect fire in the lounge comes as standard. You can go for a swivel armchair, and a storage footstool, an MP3 sound system, a washer-dryer and a dishwasher. And, if you site your Skye by the coast, you might like this to consider. A galvanised chassis with a 10-year guarantee, rather than the standard painted chassis.

Whatever options you go for, and whichever layout is best for your family needs, your Skye will have a stunning soft décor scheme. The palette of creams has accents of pastel mauve, green
and grey.

Lounge

Willerby Skye lounge

It’s easy to picture family gatherings in this inviting open space. The L-shaped sofa is perfect for stretch-out relaxing or for lots of folk to sit together; it’s 2.9m long! Armrests define not the edges of the sofa but the junction between the lounge and the dining element of this lovely open space.

Dining

The dining seating is also L-shaped – and large; one side is 1.7m long and the other 1.6m, creating plenty of space for family dining.

The table adheres to the natural wood styling elsewhere in the Skye. The hessian-inspired upholstery in the dining and lounge areas, with the plain cream carpet, enhances the simple, modern look.

Kitchen

The angled cabinet creates a focal point of  the kitchen. It gives the lounge an unusual and delightful dimension too. This area has quite a separate feel. Storage space is excellent.

Storage elements include a wall cabinet and a large cupboard under the sink. And it contains a bin with a lid which rises when you open the door. Our fully-loaded review model houses an Indesit washer-dryer.

The cooker, with a smart grey glass-effect splashback and extractor fan with built-in light, is a large domestic-sized model. It has a four-burner hob big enough for pans and woks of any size.

Surface space (here, smart dark wood, contrasts with the pale woodwork elsewhere) is good. There are two main areas plus space to the right of the hob. Family holiday cooking would be an easy pleasure in a Skye!

They've disguided the fridge-freezer in a cabinet-shelf unit. It sits outside the main kitchen area, alongside the Skye’s entrance. Together with the 1.78m shelving unit, this creates the impression of a hallway, while still being open-plan.

Bedrooms

Willerby Skye main bedroom

The main bedroom runs the full width of this Skye model; it’s spacious, at 2.4m deep. More of the cappuccino-shade natural wood finish that’s a feature elsewhere in the Skye is here. It's in a beautiful bed-head, cabinets and shelf arrangement plus a dressing table. We love the upholstered panels on the bed-head. It matches the curtains. the combination of soft turquoise and shimmering silver-grey is amazing.

And the en suite? That’s a simple toilet-and-washbasin arrangement with a good-sized mirror.

If you, like us, love the cream and pale turquoise bed set you see in the photograph on these pages, you can get it as an optional extra. We’d definitely go for that, to complete with Skye’s master bedroom luxury look!

We’d go for the bed-coverings in the twin bedroom, too – again integrated with the soft turquoise and silvery grey of the curtains here. The beds are 1.9m long, and with a movable table between them; movable so that you can get at the floor-level mains socket behind it. That’s one of three power points in this room.

Shower room

The shower is domestic-sized metre wide and 65cm deep. The heated towel rail will warm ensure at least two towels and there’s a loop for another towel. A mirrored cabinet takes care of shampooing necessities.

It’s easy to picture family gatherings, fun, mealtimes, and pastimes all going on in the Skye’s wide-open, airy lounge-diner-kitchen

Our view

It’s easy to picture family gatherings, fun, mealtimes, and pastimes all going on in the Skye’s wide-open, airy lounge-diner-kitchen. But there’s more to this new holiday home than its design for family flexibility. The Skye somehow creates the atmosphere of a summer holiday.

It's a relaxing base for activities, and a comfortable place to return to at the end of an active day.  Create super meals in the spacious kitchen and then to flop down in front of a television. Go to see a Skye and you’ll catch our train of thought. The atmosphere is down to created décor. The combination of natural wood finish and subtle colours is always welcoming.
