Holiday Home Review: Willerby Juniper

The second in Willerby's Botanicals Collection, following the launch of the luxurious Mulberry lodge last year, is the Juniper, equally luxurious and with a distinctive style

Words by Val Chapman

Willerby's latest new model is a holiday lodge of grand proportions with a gigantic open-plan living space and fresh modern styling. The ultra modern look, though, is beautifully tempered by style points that create cosiness.

Chief among them is the flame-effect fire set into a traditional-style fireplace in brushed steel, at the front of the lounge. On each side are windows, one with bi-folding doors. Matt pale fawn planking-effect lines the front wall; the other walls and the roof are cream. Windows are on all sides.

Sumptuous plain grey upholstered sofas laden with cushions face each other across an oak coffee table and a central deep pile cream rug on wooden flooring.

Hallway

We'd made ourselves at home in the lounge initially, to compose this review, stepping in through the big, wide doors at the front. The layout of the Juniper, though, gives you a side entrance – that's the main door, with a large hallway and a recess housing coat hooks plus a seat, perfect for lacing up or taking off your boots. It's the shape of the hallway, jutting out into living space, that creates a suggestion of an alcove area for dining.

Dining area

The six-seater table sits by a window, opposite the kitchen, a charming space that integrates with the open-plan layout yet feels a little separate, thanks to the hallway's shape that gives dimension and character here.

More character is imparted by the prominent central ceiling beam, complete with studs, looking ever so slightly cottagey in style.

Kitchen

Willerby Juniper Kitchen

Two Velux roof windows ensure the kitchen is a light, bright space. The units are aligned in an L-shape, with the oven and microwave on one end of the 'L' and the fridge-freezer defining the other. In between, there's a large hob (with extractor fan), a sink with a high quality matt finish and plenty of surface space.

An island unit houses plenty of cabinets and shelves and provides a breakfast bar.

This is a kitchen designed for practicality, with plenty of storage space, and for conviviality – it's easy to picture perching on the upholstered stools sipping a glass of wine as the sun sets and you contemplate cooking dinner, or enjoying coffee anytime.

Utility room

Opposite the hallway is one of the largest utility rooms in any holiday home. A large sink and a washer-dryer (an optional extra) take care of the necessitous tasks. Upper and lower cabinets will hide away loads of stuff. And the Juniper has a back door, leading from the utility room!

Main bedroom

Willerby Juniper main bedroom

All the Juniper's rooms are large; the main bedroom is exceptionally spacious. On one side, the en suite shower room (also spacious) sits alongside a walk-in dressing room.

Windows on each side of the bed have Roman-style folding blinds in a fabric reminiscent of traditional deckchairs, and this wall is the same matt fawn slightly distressed wood effect as that on the front wall of the lounge. The effect creates just a suggestion of seaside theme.

Second bedroom

Twin beds, three feet wide and with plenty of space between them – the spaciousness of the Juniper is here, too.

The Palest grey and white paisley pattern curtains and bed cushions inject a touch of tradition.

Shower room

The main shower room is just forward of the second bedroom – again with plenty of floor space.

Exterior

The Juniper's grey exterior cladding is stunning, defined by dark grey soffits and window frames. It's an outstandingly imposing holiday home of stunningly large proportions. We love it!
