Holiday Home Review: Prestige Plantation House

06b45f2e-a6cd-4143-9f30-2bccdd5cd209

The grey exterior with two sets of white framed windows at the front make this an imposing lodge. Straight away you get the idea that practicality rules in this lodge; the door opens into a utility room with a sink, washing machine, plenty of space to take off shoes and seven coathooks on the wall.

Then you turn into the living area with its U-shaped kitchen and immediately realise that style, as well as practicality, has been behind the creation of this lodge; the large amount of surface extends into a big breakfast bar. Unusually, the fridge and freezer sit side by side in the cabinet run, rather than as an upright unit. Four lower cupboards and three drawers, plus two upper cabinets, together provide plenty of hideaway opportunity. Alongside the two bar chairs is another cabinet, plus a 15-bottle wine rack.

The kitchen is complete with a dishwasher and the cooking equipment is a four-burner hob and oven-grill.

The centrepiece of the lounge is a large, square seat-footstool; a fabric tab allows you to lift the top to reveal a storage area; more practicality, then.

The corridor to the right of the entrance-utility room takes you to a twin bedroom and then a lovely main bedroom with two large wardrobes and drawer units that flank the shower room. Dark brown, wood-effect tiles are in the shower. The same styling is in the bathroom, which has an over-bath shower.

This lodge’s style has a strong country cottage vibe, created in part by the distressed style of a cabinet in the lounge and the bar seats constructed of dark wood and metal. Those elements, combined with cool fawn modern tones, result in a really pleasing environment.

Our view

It’s easy to envisage the Plantation House as a family holiday headquarters and just as easy to picture it in entertaining mode, with the kitchen at full stretch and the French doors, that lead from the dining area, open.
