THE Impression has been launched alongside the Vision as a slightly more up-market model, featuring a plusher frontage with even more windows. The exterior is quite similar in shape, with a similar stepped front end façade, but with the addition of a gable hip above the side entrance.

In the case of the Impression, French doors are positioned on the right-hand side of the front, with a triangular glass panel above, rising into the pitch of the roof. There is a full height window on the narrow angled dogleg, and a three-panel, full-height window on the other half of the frontage, also with a traingular panel above.

The front side has two double full-height windows, with a half-glazed entrance door about halfway along.

LOTS OF GLASS

If you enter from the side, the door leads into a double-doored cupboard to the right containing the boiler, and with space for coats, boots, etc. The hall leads off right to the bedrooms and bathroom. But immediately left is the door to the full-width living area with vaulted ceilings, French doors and lots of glass.

The lounge has one chocolate brown fabric sofa and one leather sofa and a fireplace with feature electric fire centrally placed between the two large, full-height windows on the side wall. There’s a light wood coffee table to match the fireplace surround and a five lamp ceiling pendant. Colours are neutral, beiges and browns offsetting white, though some lively (but not too lively) colour is added by scatter cushions and the slightly pop-art-style flowery drapes, on chrome poles.

The dining area shares the lounge space, and the large, 6ft-window allows lots of light to shine onto the attractive six-place wooden table, with faux-leather upholstered chairs. Two of the window panels can be opened, acting as additional patio doors.

COOK’S TRIANGLE

The kitchen, with plank effect vinyl floor in contrast to the beige carpet elsewhere, and finished in off white, is open plan to the lounge area, from which it is separated by a diagonally-placed island unit, turning the space from L-shaped to a triangle.

There is plenty of worktop space (blockwood style finish) and cupboard storage with gas hob set into the end workspace with extractor above and a double oven in a tower unit to the right.

Fascias are cream with chrome pulls and there’s a nice worktop-mounted, glass-fronted cabinet to the left of the sink on the side wall. The big window above the sink lets in plenty of light.

The integrated fridge and freezer are mounted beneath the island unit, and there’s an integrated dishwasher beneath the sink area.

LUXURY MASTER

At the end of the hall, side by side, are doors to the two bedrooms. On the left is the master, which is an excellent size with lots of walk-round space and plenty of room for a dressing table if you wanted to add one. As in the dining area, two of the three full height windows can be fully opened. The drapes, hung on brushed chrome poles, are golden brown and beige, the leaf pattern rather heavier and more traditional than those in the living area.

A door in the corner of the room leads into a walk-through wardrobe, which incorporates a mirror-doored closet. A second door leads into the en suite, which has similar fittings to the communal bathroom, though this has a very spacious shower cubicle with glass screen. The hand basin has storage beneath and the tiling here is marbled grey.

The size of the bedroom is emphasized by the large side patio window and the light grain, modern furniture. It demonstrates that for the extra cash the Impression lodge offers just that extra compared to the Vision, and is also built to residential standards.

TIDY TWIN

The other room at the end of the hall is the twin bedroom, which has a built-in double wardrobe and dresser with a chest of three drawers between the beds and over-bed storage comprising three double-doored cup-boards stretching the full width of the room. This unit is fitted right up to the flat ceiling, so there are no dust traps.

The room has a large side window, hung with similar drapes to the master bedroom. The generally light, neutral colours and light wood grain fittings make it a light and airy room.

COMPACT BATHROOM

Pass through the door from the lounge into the hall, and on the right is the smartly designed communal bathroom. It is fairly compact in size but features a p-shaped bath with shower above and curved, hinged shower screen. The half-moon handbasin is set on a white double-doored cabinet and has an oval mirror and striplight/shaver point above.

The large tiles are brown marble effect and rise to full height around the bath, half-height elsewhere. The floor has similar plank-effect vinyl to the kitchen.

OUR VERDICT

This Impression is the same size as the Vision (and also has a slightly larger alternative), but the distribution of space provides for a larger master bedroom and en suite plus more hall area and a bigger cloak cupboard, but with a slightly smaller lounge/diner and no walk-in wardrobe to the second bedroom (though slightly more bedroom floor area).

Which layout you prefer is probably a matter of taste and needs, but with the Impression you would get slightly more, and a higher standard of, equipment. But a £16,000 price difference is a not inconsiderable sum, and that alone might persuade you to plump for the slightly lower spec of the Vision. But this more expensive sibling does have more looks and style, and if you can afford them, the extras would make it worth trading a little way upmarket.
