The south Cornwall coast
Known for its mild climate, the south Cornwall coast is also famous for its quaint, ancient fishing villages. Some have evolved into charming and fascinating mini resorts. Among these are Fowey, Looe and Polperro. In between, tiny coves and beaches line up to entice you – Lansallos, Lantivet, Lantic… and, to the east, the beaches, cliffs and villages of the Rame Peninsula beckon.
If you love all things coast, you’ll love this area. And there’s a picturesque holiday lodge park in precisely the right place to take advantage of all that this enchanting coastline offers. Oaklands Park sits between Looe and Polperro, just two miles inland.
Homes ready to buy
There’s a quiet quality about Oaklands Park. Its slightly rolling terrain gives the park a natural appeal. Plots are generously sized and have lovely countryside views. Demand is high here – unsurprisingly – and, as a result, new development is taking place, with plots being created and new holiday homes now on the park, ready to buy.
Prices of holiday homes start from £55,995 for a Willerby Linwood 35ft by 12ft, and rise, through the luxury and size ranks, to £101,995, for a 43ft by 12ft Willerby Vogue Classique. For buyers who want to go for something larger, there’s a good choice of lodges, too, ranging in price from £154,995 for a 40ft by 20ft Willerby Mapleton, to £165,995 for a 40ft by 20ft Swift Toronto. Oaklands Park, thus, has leisure homes for a wide variety of tastes.
Dog friendly
Oaklands Park is an impressive place; relaxing, and also with family appeal. There’s a large adventure playground, plus plenty of space for play. Dogs are well catered for, with a dog walk, plus a fenced area in which they can be let off leads. It’s a delightful park – and with many enchanting places within a short distance, to enjoy, too.
From Fowey to Looe
Among the quaint towns along this stretch of coast is Fowey, to the east of Oaklands Park. A 10-mile drive takes you there via a small car ferry, over the River Fowey, from Boddinick. Or you can drive the longer route, taking you just over 20 miles into the hinterland and through pretty villages.
Fowey is a charming, ancient port, close to the mouth of the River Fowey, where you’ll find pretty Readymoney Cove Beach. There are plenty of eateries and coffee places – some overlooking the river – plus galleries, and quality shops including southwest clothes shops, Seasalt and Saltrock. Fowey also has one of the six shops that showcase the work of the famous Cornish fused-glass artist, Jo Downs.
Stunning beaches
Between Fowey and the ancient fishing port of Polperro lie cliffs and coves; walking, and seeking out secluded little beaches, is a joy here.
Lansallos Beach is a quiet cove well worth the mile-or-so walk from a car park in Lansallos village.
Lantivet Bay, sheltered by high cliffs, is a small sandy beach (low tide only) and Lantic Bay, also cliff-sheltered, has two beaches, Little Lantic and Great Lantic; at low tide you can walk between the two.
East of Polperro you will find Talland Bay, with a stretch of fine sand. This is the nearest beach to Oaklands Park. It’s a few minutes’ drive from the park (a small car park is nearby), or you can walk there in around 20 minutes.
Buying a holiday home at Oaklands Park
The park sets out to make buying easy, with a number of options on financing your holiday home, including hire purchase. Part-exchanging is an option here, too; the park is happy to take touring caravans, motorhomes and holiday homes or lodges in part exchange. The park has an 11-month season, from 31 March to 31 January.
