Holiday park group profile: Discover Parks

If you’re looking to experience the very best Britain can offer and yearn to have your own affordable holiday home, then why not journey to the very western edge of the Midlands and check out Discover Parks?

Set amidst stunning scenery that gives a true sense of space and freedom, Discover Parks’ luxury lodges and holiday homes are situated in perfect places to get away from it all and experience simplistic paradise.

Discover Parks’ trio of five-star destinations are in superb locations, of ancient woodlands, meandering rivers and even a glacial lake.

Pearl Lake Leisure Park, on the outskirts of Shobdon village, and Arrow Bank Country Holiday Park, in the picturesque black and white village of Eardisland, are both in north Herefordshire, a 10-minute drive apart.

Sue and Pete Gallagan, from Rugby, normally holiday abroad twice a year but last summer, following Covid restrictions, they made a move they’d been considering for some time. They bought a holiday home with Discover Parks – within just a few hours of having a tour around the 100 acres of Pearl Lake.

Sue says: “Pearl Lake is definitely a hidden gem. From the moment you drive in the entrance you feel happy and relaxed. It’s a very select site with beautiful scenery and maintained to a high standard so we would definitely give it 10 out of 10.” With golf, fishing, bowls and a bar and restuarant to enjoy, the Gallagans feel they’ve landed the jackpot.

Pete says: “The lake is just amazing; we love walking around there with our dog, Duggie. The park is extremely dog-friendly, with a superb dog wash and huge exercise field so they can run free off the lead. The children’s play areas look brilliant, too, and we look forward to our grandkids being able to visit and have fun there on the BMX track and zip wires. We have space, tranquillity and everything we could wish for in terms of an affordable UK holiday destination.”

Just over the north Herefordshire border into mid Wales is Discover Parks’ Rockbridge Country Holiday Park, home to The Retreat, a small development of luxury holiday lodges. With breathtaking views across the Welsh border countryside, this park is a walkers’ paradise, as the famous Offa’s Dyke path runs alongside.

Jules and John Bird, from Redditch, decided to invest in a Willerby Portland lodge here three years ago because of the peace and quiet. “Having previously stayed on the touring part of the park, we decided this was the place for us,” said Jules. “We like being able to unwind surrounded by beautiful views of the countryside. The nearby town of Presteigne suits our needs with its pubs, eateries and church; everything you could wish for on the doorstep.”

Discover Parks is planning to host open weekends throughout the summer, when visitors can tour all three parks which each offer something different. Look out for the dates on the Discover Parks website; individual tours can be arranged by appointment on 01544 388312.
