FINCHALE ABBEY

c4998662-011f-4438-ae0a-e574aa3ac020
FINCHALE Abbey is a family owned and run, adult only park only four miles from the historic city of Durham. It has been in the Welsh family since 1951, though since then, of course, the park has undergone significant development, particularly in the last ten years. It now offers both touring and residential facilities in the new ‘Eco Village’.

The park is nestled in the meander of the river Wear, alongside the ruins of Finchale Abbey, both of which make for stunning surrounding scenery and views.

The park is a David Bellamy Silver Award winner, and is keen to develop its environmental side, through initiatives such as the recent creation of a wildflower dog walking area.

Bill Bryson, author of Notes From A Small Island, called Durham ‘a perfect little city’, and it’s not hard to see why. This University city offers an enchanting combination of winding cobbled streets, riverside walks, local crafts and cafes, all topped off with a stunning Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site.
