Full review

Pilote’s Premium Class range replaces the Fiat-based Le Voyageurs for 2016 – a nod to their ancestry comes in the form of discreet Le Voyageur badges as part of the external graphics.

A-class, with an Al-Ko chassis, a double floor and an island bed, the Premium Class is all pretty standard fare for an upmarket motorhome, but everything here has been redesigned from the ground up.

Externals are good-looking, solid, and a touch of class has been added with some nice detailing. Standard Ducato headlights used, and they look good, while having the obvious advantage of easy spares procurement.

Less obvious is the fact that the roof is curved - enough to give excellent water run-off, not enough to make mounting accessories such as solar panels and satellite dishes difficult. Construction sees GRP-skinned panels, alloy clad inside, 35mm all-round insulation and a GRP underskin.

The new-look interior mixes limed-effect wood with chalk white detailing and darker edging. There are plenty of curvy parts to add interest and individual style.

Aguti captain’s chairs swivel to join in with twin sofas, making a lounge to please the British. You might think there are only two travel seats, but under each settee lurks a fold-up, fully belted pew. These are removable, so they can be left at home when only two travellers are on board – and thus make for more storage.

The side-mounted kitchen majors on curves and drawers. The designer sink is maybe a bit too deep for the average washing-up bowl.

Opposite the galley is the fridge. It’s one of Dometic’s tall-and-slim-but-generous-of-capacity models and offers Auto Energy Selection, too. Forward of this there’s a glasses cabinet, TV and slim cupboard with room for bottles.

The shower takes a starring role in the en suite washroom thanks to a compartment that’s heroically engineered and spacious. Good lighting and ventilation makes it better.

A generous, mirrored cupboard above the rather high toilet solves potion stowage problems well. Below, the vessel-style basin is served by a chunky pillar tap and plenty of surface.

The reason-to-buy island bed can rise at the head and there’s a neat personal sound system built-in above. Stowage space in the bedroom is good, with clever, slide-out hangers in the wardrobes. Beneath, a good-sized garage provides room for your bulky touring kit.

This is an abridged version of the full review appearing in the August 2015 issue of Which Motorhome.
