Full review

In the 13-model Arto A-class motorhome range, the 76 E model was accounting for 20% of sales across Europe. Now, for 2018, the 76 E is replaced by the new 77 E

The small change in nomenclature is indicative that this is not a major change in design or layout. In fact, the big news is bigger beds, designed to cater for taller buyers. In addition, a new solid sliding door separates the living and sleeping areas when required.

Other changes for the new season are subtle. So, you might spot the new high-performance Thetford Topline stove with split glass lid or, if you’re an existing Arto owner, the fact that the electrics have been moved to an easier-to-access position in the garage.

The lighting has been improved, too, with new spotlights under the drop-down cab bed and dimmable indirect lighting over the living area wall cabinets, as well as an LED strip on the forward edge of the cab bed which makes quite a statement when seen from outside at night. When you open the habitation door, floor-level lighting now comes on automatically.

There are new options, too, such as the real carbon-fibre dashboard elements seen on this demo vehicle, designed to add a bit of style to the original Fiat fascia. A bedroom TV is now available for all single bed layouts.

The layout places two (conjoined) single beds over a rear garage – mattress lengths are now claimed to be up to 2.02m, while the garage below is 2.17m by 1.40m with headroom of 1.25m. With a payload of 850kg (or up to 1,150kg on the upgraded 4.8-tonne chassis), you’ll be able to make good use of all that space.

Ablutions follow the essential liner style of a shower on the nearside and a toilet room on the opposing side of the vehicle. The shower is of the circular beam-me-up-Scotty ilk and is fitted with a roof vent and clothes drying rail above, while the loo room comes with a swivel Thetford cassette and a basin integrated into the Corian-style worktop.

The L-shaped galley boasts few surprises but beats rivals for style. As seen here, an integral sink with stainless-steel bottom is the sort of touch you’d find in a high-end domestic galley, while the draining board is integrated into the worktop, as is a small draining sink.

The lounge comes in typical N+B format, which means the décor is down to you. You’ll be able to personalise your Arto to your heart’s content and could even order a second set of cushions to have summer and winter designs.

But it’s under the skin that an Arto really impresses, not just with its build quality but features like the 200-litre fresh water tank.
