Full review

At 7.49m long and 2.92m high, Laika’s new Ecovip 412 motorhome is no shrinking violet, but the space inside is used well.

Externally, the sleek white motorhome is enhanced by a black grille and headlight surrounds, along with the crisp grey toned graphics. Flush-fit framed windows complete the design.

Internally, the modern look continues with the optional Tuscan Elm décor – the light furniture and dark wood-effect floor is all very contemporary. The standard Italian Walnut is much warmer in tone, though, if the scheme shown is a little too modern for you.

The layout is typical of the type: a small L-shaped lounge with swivel cab seats, central kitchen, across-the-aisle washroom and island bed at the rear. The lounge may be compact, but the L-shaped sofa (with travel seats) is comfy and the small side seat can be used to dine at the fixed table or as a footstool when lounging on the driver’s seat.

The seats also make into a single bed as standard. Or you can specify an electric drop-down bed above.

Behind the travel seats is the kitchen, It’s a compact L-shape, but the orientation of the three-burner hob and the sink does allow for some worktop space. Below, you’ll find three drawers, plus two more deeper drawers on the right. You can specify a factory-fitted oven/grill here, but that will reduce storage.

The tall fridge (160 litres) is opposite, sandwiched between a large eye-level cupboard – the short of stature will need a step to reach this due to this motorhome’s excellent internal height of 2.10m – and a small drawer below.

Before you get to the all-important bedroom, the washroom is split across the aisle with the shower on the right and the toilet cubicle on the left. The toilet door swings out to close off the washroom from the front of the motorhome, making this a lovely en suite. And if you need to use it while your partner is asleep, or you have guests using the front bed, then simply slide across the divider to shut off the bed from the washroom.

The toilet is mounted on a plinth (because of the wheelarch), making it a little high for most. The basin has a small moulded area for soap, as well as a wall-mounted liquid soap dispenser. There’s a locker below and a mirror-doored cabinet above. And the bathroom also has a window and a rooflight.

The shower, opposite, has a classy smoked door. There’s some wheelarch intrusion, making the floor area a little limited, but the shower is a good size. At the very rear, you can walk around the island bed, with decent-sized steps on either side to aid access – the bed rises and lowers electrically to increase garage space or make the bed easier to get into, respectively. Usefully, there are shelves on either side of the bed for your morning cuppa, books, reading glasses and the like. Each side you get a wardrobe and there are two lockers above the head of the bed, but set high enough for you to sit up in bed.
