Hymer has a long history of building motorhomes on Mercedes-Benz chassis, and, today, is the leading manufacturer of Sprinter-based motorhomes, so it seems appropriate that its latest special editions to commemorate the company’s diamond anniversary should be a pair of Mercedes-Benz.

There’s the ML-T 570 low-profile motorhome and this ML-I 570 A-class motorhome, each with the ‘60 Edition’ suffix and the same floorplan.

“To mark the company’s anniversary year, we are presenting a new layout with single beds that is well under seven metres and the 3.5-tonne limit. At the same time, we want to use this to give our customers a sneak preview of the future generation of vehicles,” explained Bernhard Kibler, Managing Director of Hymer, at the launch of these special vehicles.

At first glance, the garage layout with high-set twin beds is a familiar one, but here overall length has been reduced to 6.75m, rather than the 6.99m of the existing 580 ML-T/ML-I models.

But the real story of the ‘60 Edition’ is the extra specification it has compared with a standard ML-I – around £8k-worth of it, says Hymer. The jubilee versions also come with new materials, elegant colours and state-of-the-art technology.

Up front, the new ML-I 570 comes with an L-settee in Milano fabric with stain protection, while the bright Chiavenna walnut furniture décor features two-tone doors.

Combined with the new tabletops and worktops in an ultra-matt finish with anti-fingerprint coating (which makes surfaces easy to care for), it exudes a touch of retro design.

The design is said to achieve a “balanced relationship between vintage and modernity.” The ML-I also shares the B-Class DynamicLine’s lightweight construction to allow a 3,500kg gross weight.

Hymer is, after all, at the vanguard of the much-needed industry-wide effort to reduce the weight of motorhomes.

Highlights in the bedroom and bathroom area include extra-long single beds in the rear. The beds feature sprung cold foam mattresses. Two additional berths with the same high level of comfort can be found in the drop-down bed in the cab.
