Full review

We reckon this is a motorhome that you should take a close look at – especially if you’re an active couple looking for something a bit different.

And doesn’t this look different? It’s very tall for a start and that luton has a style of its own. Both facets are examples of form following function. The Terrestra is well over three metres high because it has a deep double floor, offering a 37cm-tall cavern for all your gear under the living area. The water tanks are in the floor, too, for the ultimate in winterisation. And the luton is as bulky as it is because it houses the main bed – a whopping 2.07m by 1.64m (those are our measurements, not optimistic brochure-speak). Not only that, but the overcab comes with two opening windows, a huge rooflight and a sprung base.

The other key feature of this model, which, let’s remind ourselves, is just 5.98m long, is the rear lounge. It’s a U-shape arrangement with (unlike British models) a fixed table (which, nevertheless, slides in all directions). And sitting up so high gives you a panoramic outlook over your campsite neighbours, as well as stopping the nosey ones from peering in! Just as importantly, the soft furnishings here are very well executed and you can even carry occasional rear passengers, thanks to the three-point belts and removable headrests (forward-facing, of course).

The kitchen is a bit more like the stereotypical German ’van because it lacks any oven or grill, but the three-burners-in-a-line hob frees up a bit of worktop in front and the under-counter fridge is bigger than you expect – its capacity is 122 litres and it’s got automatic energy selection, too.

The bathroom has all the facilities in one room but the circular shower area doesn’t have to share (wooden duckboarded) floor space with the loo. A tall mirror sits alongside an opening window, while fittings even include a soap dispenser.

What else do you get for just under sixty grand? Plenty of high-level lockers, a very large wardrobe and a generous external compartment under the rear lounge mean that you shouldn’t be short of storage space. Flush-fitting windows and alloy wheels add a bit of style. And the kit list is completed with a reversing camera, SOG toilet vent, an external shower and factory-fitted rails to take your bike rack.

The Terrestra is something of a one-off in compact coachbuilts but if massive storage, a rear lounge and six-metre length are your top priorities, then this is for you.
