What a neat-looking little motorhome this is! Of course, Dethleffs has been building truly compact low-profiles (short and slim) under the Bus and Globebus names almost as long as it has been making motorhomes. So, this is just the latest in a long line of littlies.

This one, seen at Travelworld of Stafford, looks rather special because it has the £2,800 GT Package, which adds a red skidplate, various graphics, cab running board steps, flush-fitting habitation windows, 16in alloy wheels and some interior design touches.

It certainly makes for a sporty looking motorhome and one that, in T 1 form, is only 2.20m wide and a fraction less than 6m long.

There are island bed and twin bed layouts, too, in the Globebus range but this transverse double layout is a metre shorter, keeping things properly compact. It has fewer direct rivals than the single bed version, too.

Under the rear fixed bed, of course, is the garage with headroom of 1.07m and width of between 540mm and 900mm (the gas locker steals space on the nearside).

You step on board via a door with window, bin and central locking and, although you’re clearly in a small motorhome, the Globebus avoids feeling cramped.

A long, slim overcab sunroof and a push-up rooflight over the half-dinette flood the interior with daylight and the cab floor level continues for the half-dinette lounge to keep all the seats at a comfortable level.

The table is a good size – but not too big – and the soft, pillow-like backrest cushions are super. Then there are the stylish ship’s clocks over the door – a classic Dethleffs touch. Isofix is an option for the rear travel seat.

The galley is compact but features one of the largest cutlery drawers we’ve ever seen, as well as a tall pull-out pantry unit for tinned foods, etc. There’s an oven/grill as standard for the UK but it’s right down at floor level, so you’ll need to be flexible when checking on the toast.

A small worktop extension sits by the door and at the opposite end of the kitchen is a 142-litre automatic energy selection fridge.

Under that tall black Thetford unit is a pull-out step to ease access to the rear bed, measuring 1.98m by 1.42m. There’s ambient lighting all around the bedroom, plus a reading light and opening window at each end, but the shelving makes sitting up in bed awkward.

A third berth is provided in the lounge, but the two extra cushions required to make this child’s bed are quite bulky.

We couldn’t fault the washroom, though, which has a sliding door, so that you can leave the bed’s step out at night. Inside is an excellent swing-wall arrangement to turn the loo room into a shower cubicle, while the sturdy, practical design includes twin shower drains, a duckboard (optional), roof vent and a wire basket for gels/shampoo.

If the compromise of a transverse bed (climbing over your partner to get out) doesn’t put you off, this is a stylish little campervan with great storage, top-notch quality and good design.
