Here’s an all-new entry-level range of low-profile motorhomes, based on the facelifted Euro 6d Ford Transit. With two compact (sub-6m) models, a single-bed-over-garage layout and a very British two-lounge floorplan (including wrap-around U-shaped sofas aft), the latest Tribute line-up seems to have the main bases covered. But in terms of design it bests key competitors, while pricing looks ultra-keen and the Ford base gives these newcomers a big advantage.

Any Fiat/Peugeot owner who drives one is likely to view the latest Transit as a revelation. That’s before you even consider the 170bhp engine upgrade (just £1,200) or the excellent torque converter automatic gearbox (at £1,740). There’s a choice of cab colours, too, while a Drivers Pack (£1,499) adds heated mirrors, automatic headlights, front foglamps, cab air-conditioning, cornering lights and a heated windscreen. Then there’s a Lux Pack (£1,399) which truly removes any impression of going back to basics, with features such as sat-nav, reversing camera, solar panel, carpets and more.

None of the models is a dud, but it’s the F60 that grabbed our attention at the launch – and not just because of its striking Kapoor Red cab. Here’s a six-metre motorhome that feels spacious for two-person touring on the inside but should drive really well thanks to its compact dimensions and diminutive rear overhang. The layout is open and spacious, with a side sofa lounge, a panoramic overcab rooflight and no fixed table.

The offside settee measures a generous 1.51m, while there’s good storage under each bench. You don’t have to turn seats into beds, either, as an electric drop-down double (1.92m by 1.23m) lowers from above. The galley features plenty of worktop, an oven/grill and three-burner hob, but it’s the washroom that belies the size of this ’van. Sited across the rear, the F60’s bathroom includes a separate shower, good storage and a wardrobe, too.
