Full review

When Auto-Sleepers launched the Corinium motorhome range in mid-2016 it was intended to make the company’s largest layouts available on either the existing Mercedes Sprinter or, for the first time, a Peugeot Boxer.

Because of their size – not far short of eight metres long – they’d use an Al-Ko chassis, too – something not seen from Willersey since the unloved Midas of 2004/5.

This latest motorhome review is brought to you by the experts at What Motorhome magazine. If you like it and want to read the latest issue of this leading motorhome magazine, click here.

These newcomers – named after Roman Cirencester – took a far more successful route, as the initial pair of layouts, including this Duo, were inherited wholesale from the Mercedes Burford. Crucially, though, adopting the Italian cab reduces the starting price by over £8k compared with the Sprinter. And the chassis swap has enabled Auto-Sleepers to offer its largest motorhomes on a 3.5-tonne chassis, which was not possible with the three-pointed star.

As a two-berth, you might just find the 363kg quoted payload adequate but do your sums carefully before you decide to go for this over the 4-tonne model, which takes the payload up to a much more impressive 778kg. This version also comes with a spare wheel, rather than the Fix and Go repair kit of the lighter model.

If you order the half-dinette lounge with two extra seatbelts (a £1,000 option), you’ll certainly need the chassis upgrade.

Whichever gross weight you select, you’ll be ticking the box marked Premium Pack. For £2,500 this adds alloy wheels, cab air-con, cruise control, a leather steering wheel, an 80W solar panel, a Thule awning, a colour reversing camera and Garmin sat-nav. Another £995 brings you the Media Pack with Maxview VuQube II satellite system, while £295 brings you the Winter Pack.

Of course, the Peugeot chassis doesn’t offer an automatic option but, to solve this, Auto-Sleepers offers a switch to the Boxer’s Fiat cousin for buyers wanting the Comfort-Matic robotised gearbox. Standard spec is a manual gearbox Peugeot with the latest 2-litre Euro VI engine in 160bhp form.

The Corinium Duo layout is an established favourite of the British scene, pairing twin beds with an end washroom and effectively splitting the vehicle into two completely separate rooms by way of a wall and central door between the forward lounge/diner and rear en suite bedroom.

The front lounge comes with parallel settees and these convert into a transverse double bed – perhaps for a visitor or two. The Duo’s owners, however, will sleep in 1.86m single beds, each with a shallow wardrobe overhanging the foot of the bed. Fitted headboards create a homely feel, while a large rooflight lets in the morning daylight.

A second hinged door with domestic-type handle leads from the bedroom into the rear bathroom, which stretches right across the motorhome and includes a separate shower.

Other features of note here include the microwave and dual-fuel cooker, the underslung 25-litre LPG tank, Melamine crockery set and choice of six Belgian chenille fabrics.
