Full review

The Sunlight Cliff is now quite well established amongst the myriad of continental van conversions, but the brand is celebrating its fifteenth year in business and to commemorate the occasion has launched a high-spec XV Edition version of its campervans.

While standard Cliffs are usually white (with metallic grey an optional extra), the new XV Edition is much more striking in metallic black with matt black graphics and a matching bike rack and Thule Omnistor roll-out awning. Painted bumpers, a gloss black grille, black framed headlights and 16in alloy wheels complete the external transformation.

Inside, you can still choose from four layouts. The 540 is the medium-wheelbase baby of the range with a transverse double bed and 5.41m length. The 600 is the six-metre classic, again with a bed across the width of the vehicle, while the 601 is the same size but with double bunks at the back. The 6.36m 640 completes the range, using its extra space to accommodate lengthways sleeping.

Basis of all models is the latest Euro 6d Fiat Ducato with 120bhp motor. Inside, there’s leather and Alcantara upholstery, as well as cab air-conditioning, a passenger airbag, cruise control, a leather steering wheel, chrome instrument surrounds and a Multimedia Package with reversing camera. The XV Edition specification also includes a duckboard for the shower, a large rooflight over the lounge, cab blinds, a bathroom window, a flyscreen on the sliding door and a weight upgrade to 3,500kg. In all, Sunlight says the extra spec means a saving of £5,679!

Another key aspect of the 600 is the lack of tall cabinetwork along the offside, giving a clear view from the bed through to the cab and a more open feeling, as well as more kitchen worktop. A larger, 90-litre fridge is now standard and can easily be reached through the open side door. The half-dinette seating has Isofix, too.
