Full review

Sunlight spent a decade building up a reputation for building solidly made, no-nonsense coachbuilt motorhomes (both overcabs and low-profiles) before dipping its toes in the van conversion market last year (and entering the A-class sector at the same time). The Cliff range has clearly been a success, so now this Dethleffs sub-brand has followed it up with the cheaper Cliff Entry.

As with the regular Cliff, the Entry models are available in four versions, all featuring a front half-dinette with a bathroom behind and a kitchen opposite. Then there are fixed beds are in the rear and, depending on the model, there’s a choice of a transverse or lengthways doubles or double bunks. All have four travel seats and the option of an extra bed made up in the lounge.

However, what sets the new Entry range apart from its siblings is the more affordable pricing. The Entry 640 shown here is priced at £39,799, compared with £49,149 for the standard Cliff 640 – a saving of well over nine grand! These prices are for standard specification models, which are based on a Fiat Ducato with 2.3-litre, 130bhp engine, as well as ESP, ASR and Hill Hold.

However, the Chassis Pack (£1,346) will be an essential add-on for most buyers as it includes cab air-conditioning, a passenger airbag, heated mirrors, cruise control and a height-adjustable passenger seat. On the habitation side, you might also want to add the Basic Pack (£1,009) which includes cab seat armrests, a kitchen worktop extension, a bathroom window, cab blinds, a table extension and a step and flyscreen for the sliding door.

Despite its keen pricing, the Entry avoids looking basic or cheap and we’re pleased to see both the generous kitchen worktop and the huge bed in this 640. Unusually, there is no attempt to divide the rear bedroom into twin beds – instead, there’s a vast lengthways double.
