Full review

Based on a short-wheelbase T6 with 4Motion all-wheel drive and differential lock, this camper uses the off-roading experience of Land Rover enthusiast and Rolling Homes boss, Mark Cooper, to create a camper with all the right gear for getting right away from Tarmac roads.

It may have started life as a short-wheelbase Transporter with 150PS TDI engine and manual gearbox – as well as VW’s eye-searing Bright Orange paint – but Rolling Homes has taken this T6 far beyond standard spec. There’s a fully crash-tested and homologated A-bar on the front, as well as three laser lights linked to main beam – ‘like daylight’ is how Mark describes their effect.

Underneath is a full skidplate to protect the mechanicals and aluminium rock sliders run down each side, while a Milltek exhaust also improves ground clearance. Bilstein suspension gives a 50mm lift and BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres on prototype Weller wheels complete the look. Mounting the chunky spare on the tailgate has required heavy-duty gas struts.

Inside, there are Cobra carbon-fibre-backed seats in the cab and matching black and orange leather for the rear sliding RIB seat/bed unit. There’s an Alpine head unit in the dash’, complete with the latest subwoofer. The habitation area is based on the Shackleton conversion but upgraded for a tougher life. The interior is all trimmed with a 4mm rubberised finish, so every surface can be wiped clean, while the cabinets sit on 25mm by 50mm box section aluminium (to protect them from water damage) and the doors are aluminium framed.
