Full review

This, as we’ve come to expect from this Rapido Group van conversion specialist brand, is a one-of-a-kind motorhome. Coachbuilts with five berths and five belted travel seats are the exception, rather than the rule, so finding a van conversion so equipped is really unusual. That the Camper Five – never has a motorhome been more succinctly named – has a separate seating area for the kids, too, is even more remarkable.

And yet the basis for this new French ’van is none other than the ubiquitous Fiat Ducato in extra-long (6.36m) form – as used for many a two-berth camper. The only unusual aspect on the outside is that it’s an L3 (extra tall) version, a necessity as enough headroom is required to incorporate the drop-down double bed up front. That’ll be mum and dad’s berth and it’s a proven (and very comfy) design already seen in the Family Van and Camper Van XL. The bed is easy to operate (thanks to gas struts) and there’s no need to disturb the lounge when deploying it.

The other beds are a pair of bunks across the back, plus the option of turning the kids’ dinette (adjacent to the beds) into another berth. While the top bunk is a modest 1.74m long, the lower bed is an adult-sized 1.85m in length.

Having the second seating area back here (with its own table), turns the whole rear section of the ’van into a kids’ den – little ones (whether toddlers or teenagers) will love it. There’s plenty more to admire here, too. The kitchen includes three gigantic drawers (reduced in size if the optional oven is fitted) and a coachbuilt-rivalling fridge capacity of 135 litres. Even the washroom impresses, with neat storage recesses in the wall, useful worktop space and vast headroom of 2.10m!

Just add the Fun + Pack (£770) for everything from a 140bhp engine upgrade and cab air-con to cab blinds and a flyscreen on the sliding door.
