VW to offer enhanced T6 for campervan manufacturers

Volkswagen is offering an extra version of its T6 to campervan converters – including base vehicles pre-fitted with its own elevating roof, plus a high-specification ‘Edition’ version

The Edition, which is available to campervan manufacturers from November, builds on previous flagship model, the Highline, adding black alloy wheels (17in on 148bhp engine models, 18in on the 202bhp), blacked-out LED rear lights, media sat-nav system with app connectivity, Autonomous Emergency Braking, reversing sensors and rear-view camera, LED headlights and power-closing side door. There’s also a black roof, although this is likely to disappear during the conversion process.

Prices start at £28,990, excluding VAT.

Independent converters like Autohaus and Auto Campers have already reported demand for the Edition model.

But, Bilbo’s boss David Latham sounds a note of caution. “We’re happy to offer the latest Edition. However, we do prefer to work with the specific motorhome base model, because of its pre-fitted windows, stronger construction and features like factory-fitted mounting points to fit seatbelts, as well as maximising underseat and rear storage. To put it bluntly, vans are for cargo, window vans are for people.”

Bilbo’s is among a number of approved converters who can offer the T6 with Volkswagen’s own aluminium, electric elevating roof. Others include Autohaus, Auto-Sleepers, Concept Multi-Car (Reimo), Danbury, Hillside Leisure, Jerba, Vanworx and Wellhouse Leisure, plus OBSpoke Services in Northern Ireland.
