Volkswagen campervan converter, Autohaus, converts T2
Volkswagen campervan converter, Autohaus, is using its new Phantom Works development, alongside its existing workshops in Somerset, exclusively for conversions of the classic VW T2
“We intend on improving the old but keeping the character of the old. We are not restoring T2s, but remanufacturing to better than new,” said Autohaus boss, Tony Payne.
“First, we are stripping down the base vehicle of all parts and sending them away to be chemical-dipped to remove any rust and decay. Then, the bare shell will be primed in epoxy resin. When we receive everything back the real work starts.
"We will cut away all damaged metal and seam-weld new panels. We will also fit a roof frame for a new elevating roof. When all the repair work is finished, the bare shell will be fully painted inside out and underneath in a colour of choice.”
The standard VW flat-four engine will be retained, but Autohaus will add electronic ignition, improve the air cooling, upgrade the brakes and fit power steering.
Work will also include wiring and light fitting, new glass, new interior upholstery and a rock ‘n’ roll seat bed plus new Autohaus furniture.
