Used 'Van Review: 1995 Mazda Bongo Friendee

This rather neat Bongo Friendee is equipped with various gadgets to make life more comfortable, including a driver's airbag, air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors and a cassette player…

For such a small 'van, this Bongo feels remarkably spacious inside. This is mainly due to the conversion, which includes attractive pale wood cabinets, and a glass roof panel that lets light flood in.

This 'van includes one very useful piece of kit that none of the others tested this month have, and it came in particularly useful on the bitterly cold day on which we were doing our report. The Webasto diesel-fired heating gets up to temperature remarkably quickly and operates reasonably quietly. Unless you intend to keep your 'van solely for mid-summer use, then this is an added extra that you'll definitely want to consider investing in.

The only thing that really lets this 'van down is the size of the bed, which measures just 1.71m (5ft 7.5in) in length. An extension panel would soon rectify this, however.

We really were struggling to find fault with this good-looking little Bongo. It's got all the gadgets, drives like a dream and is in excellent condition, which makes it this month's winner.
