Swift reassures customers as motorhome, caravan and campervan production is suspended

Britain’s largest manufacturer of motorhomes, caravans, campervans and park homes, has assured its customers who are awaiting delivery of their new models that they will receive them as planned.

The statement comes as it announced it has suspended production of new models at its factory in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, for five weeks from March 30 until May 4.

“No orders will be affected by this move,’ a company spokesman said. “This is a temporary, proactive measure and will not impact on customer orders.”

He also reassured those buyers in the market for a new motorhome or caravan that its nationwide network of dealers have new Swift models available in stock to view and that the factory has a supply of models it can send to dealers, as and when they become needed.

However, he did say the situation with deliveries and dealer operations could be disrupted with the ongoing Covid-19 crisis and so customers should remain in contact with their dealers.

The temporary suspension of production has been put down to the Covid-19 outbreak, which has impacted on the supply of parts used in the production process, as well as a drop in demand in the country’s showrooms.

“The entire country is facing unprecedented times as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak,” he said. “The workforce at large has remained unaffected by the virus. However, demand for leisure vehicle products in the immediate future is uncertain along with ever-growing restrictions in the supply chain.

“With these factors in mind the business has taken the proactive and responsible decision to suspend manufacturing activities for the month of April, with a planned return to work on Monday 4 of May.  Our service to our dealers, parks and customers will continue during this time albeit at reduced levels.”
