RP Motorhomes launches new Mercedes-based Explorer

The Otley-based panel van convertor has announced the launch of the Explorer GT2, based on a Mercedes Sprinter 313 LWB High Roof van. The base vehicle comes with a 2.1-litre, 129bhp engine with manual gear box. It has a full GRP bodykit and benefits from standard Mercedes features like Crosswind Assist, multi-function steering wheel with trip computer, electric front windows and daytime running lights. The cab offers an Audio 10 radio with MP3 player function as well as Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio streaming.

The Explorer has a GVW of 3,500kg delivering a maximum payload of 300kg. It comes with a factory-fitted towbar with integrated rear step and can tow a load of up to 2,000kg. There’s also a transverse garage covering the entire rear of the vehicle for loading bikes and other outdoor gear. It has 230v and 12v sockets fitted and also comes with a jet wash outlet so you can clean your gear before it goes in the back.

Inside there are four belted travel seats with the front lounge turning into a double bed. At the back are two singles, one of which folds up to create extra space. There’s a walk through shower with a chrome mixer and glass shelf for toiletries. The kitchen has a Thetford three-burner gas hob and oven, Corian kitchen worktops and a 48-litre fridge with a mirrored front. Water is courtesy of a 120-litre fresh water tank with heat conductor and an 80-litre heated waste tank.

The basic on the road price is £54,995 which includes 12 months read tax. There are a variety of media pack options which add everything from a TV with built-in DVD to a satellite system. Other extras include cab air-con (£1,200), electric side door (£840), full leather (£2,600), 150w solar panel (£650), Truma roof air-con with iNet (£1,995) and an Eberspacher diesel heating system with three stainless steel radiators (£2,800).

Expect to see the RP Motorhomes Explorer GT2 at a variety of outdoor shows this year.
