Romahome launches new pop-top campervan

A new pop-top campervan with side kitchen layout is the first new design produced by Isle of Wight-based manufacturer, Romahome, and it continues the brand’s long history of building Citroën-based motorhomes.

The R50 Génération is based on the latest Citroën Dispatch in M form (measuring 4.96m long).

Inside, although this type of camper might be new to Romahome, it features the company’s trademark glass-fibre furniture and trim panels, so it is recognisable as an extension to the range.

The R50 Génération has been developed along with Howards Motorhomes, which will be the exclusive dealership for this model. Based in Taunton, Howards is new to the motorhome market but already has 14 franchised retail outlets for cars.

It plans to offer R50 buyers a free drive-away awning and a two-night stay at Cornish Farm Touring Park as part of the package.

The new campervan will also come with three levels of specification.

  • The standard model is priced from £39,995 and is based on the Dispatch X with 1.6-litre 95bhp engine.
  • Next up is the R50 Génération Exclusive with 115bhp engine and additional base vehicle specification such as cab air-conditioning, rear parking sensors, 7in touchscreen DAB radio, automatic lights and wipers, etc.
  • Top of the range is the £47,995 Exclusive Plus spec with alloy wheels, reversing camera, metallic paint, front foglamps and 2-litre 120bhp engine.

Conversion specification is the same across all three models, with gas or diesel-fired heating, a 100W solar panel, coloured GRP cabinets, and additional lights and sockets amongst the extra-cost options offered. Standard features include a swivel passenger cab seat, rock ‘n’ roll bed, 38-litre compressor fridge, rear-hinged elevating roof with second bed, cassette blinds and a leisure battery. A three-year warranty is included on both the base vehicle and the conversion, and an automatic version will also be available.

Romahome is also continuing to build its R20 micro-coachbuilt on pre-owned Citroën Berlingos and will offer the tiny R10 camper while its Citroën Nemo base is still available. A new R30 van conversion is in the pipeline, based on the Relay short-wheelbase panel van (Citroën’s sister vehicle to the Fiat Ducato) and a new model based on the next Berlingo will be developed later this year.

The Isle of Wight converter currently has two dealers – Howards and Wilmoths – but further retailers are expected to be appointed soon.
