Peugeot and Citröen deny cab lighting problems

After MMM reported the Fiat Ducato dashboard issue where the instrument panel is too dark to read in normal daylight conditions unless the lights are turned on, Fiat Professional offered a fix so that the panel was illuminated all the time. As Peugeot’s Boxer and Citröen’s Relay share the same body shell with the Fiat Ducato a number of readers have also reported the same issue. MMM approached both Peugeot and Citröen to find out whether they, in light of Fiat’s offer to fix the problem, would offer a similar solution. Citröen is part of the same group as Peugeot and all base vehicle sales for motorhomes are handled by Peugeot, so its response simply mirrored that of Peugeot which was,  “The concern over the illumination levels of the dashboard dials has only been brought to our attention by your emails at MMM.  We have not received any customer concerns on this issue centrally. The instrument dials, like on most cars and vans (not just Peugeot/Citröen vehicles) will only be back lit/illuminated when the vehicle sidelights/headlamps are on, and if the instrument panels were considered too dark to read, this would most likely be indicative of the ambient lighting conditions at the time, so that may be prudent to suggest that the vehicle headlamps should be switched on too. Also, the suggestion of fixed illumination introduces the risk of the driver thinking their headlights are on when they can see the dashboard illuminated.”

However, Peugeot, and Citröen, said it was willing to discuss the problem with any owners of Boxer or Relay-based motorhome. Alternatively, you can send your contact and vehicles details to MMM and we will pass them on.
