Pedal power with the National Trust

The first ever National Trust cycling festival will take place this summer in a bid to encourage the nation to get on their bikes.

From July 16-24, over 40 National Trust places throughout the UK will be hosting a range of events and activities celebrating the wonders of pedal power.

The festival is part of a wider initiative by the Trust as it focuses on helping more people enjoy the outdoors and get closer to nature.

National Trust rangers and wardens will lead guided bike rides around beautiful country estates or cyclists can choose to go it alone at their own pace on way-marked routes. The Wimpole estate in Cambridgeshire will even launch a new network of cycle trails during the festival week.

Some Trust places will also see their opening hours extended for the week, giving people the opportunity to enjoy the late sunshine in beautiful surroundings with Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire even running an evening bike ride (20 July).

Cycle hire will be available at some properties during the festival and free downloadable cycle rides can be found on the Trust’s website.
