Paralympian sets handcycle world record
Paralympian Mel Nicholls has set a new world record for handcycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
Mel completed the challenge with the help of Marquis Leisure, who sponsored her and provided a Benimar Tessoro 494 motorhome during the attempt.
Though the attempt is still to be officially verified, Mel completed her trip in six days, 22 hours and 18 minutes, arriving in John O’Groats at 3.11am on Thursday 20 June. The current female world record stood at 11 days; Mel’s target was actually nine days so she surpassed her own expectations.
The Tessoro 494 motorhome was large enough to store her handcycle in the large rear garage when not in use, and also had space to carry support bikes and her crew.
