Novel rear kitchen layout for VW T6
VW campervan specialist, Jack’s Shack, has unveiled an unusual new Volkswagen camper design, called the Swamper. Based on a short-wheelbase T6 Transporter with raised suspension and 20in wheels with off-road tyres, the standard model is front-wheel drive but a 4Motion all-wheel drive option is available.
However, it is the layout that really makes the Swamper different, especially the location of its compact galley. This unit, which incorporates a two-burner hob and sink, slides out at the back of the camper and is fully removable. A windbreak/awning which is suspended from the tailgate is supplied for cooking is breezy conditions.
In the main body of the vehicle a full-width RIB seat/bed unit provides three rear travel seats and converts into an extra-large double bed. The interior is fully trimmed and comes with LED lamps recessed into the ceiling and pleated blinds, while a fridge (mounted behind the driver’s seat) and pop-top roof are optional.
The show model, which debuted at the National Motorhome and Campervan Show at the East of England Showground, was priced at £38,995, based on a 5,000-mile, 18-plate, 102PS (101bhp), VW van with air-conditioning, BlueMotion Technology and privacy glass. A similar conversion could be carried out on a customer’s Transporter for around £12,000.
