New motorhome campsite on Guernsey

86a80467-d934-4cb2-88e8-bab739859736

A new site for campervans, situated at the entrance to Beaucette Marina, on the northern tip of the island, has opened. Originally planning permission was applied for by Beaucette Marina Manager, Ricky Stephens, in January. It was subject to revision to make it closer to the restaurant and marina, but also nearer the industrial area, but was then approved. There are now spaces for eight campervans or motorhomes and, with the addition of Beaucette Marina, it takes the number of campsites on the island up to four. However, this is the first designed with motorhomes in mind.

The Beaucette Campervans site can accommodate eight campervans at one time, with each pitch including a picnic area, electricity and water. The site includes a washing up area with hot water, grey water disposal, a shower block and laundry facilities.

Campervanners will also have access to the marina facilities and services, including further showers, laundry and Wi-Fi. Cars and bikes can be rented from the Harbour Office and there is a bus stop eight minutes from the campsite as well as a free car park. There is also a children’s play area and pets are welcome with plenty of walking trails nearby.

Pitches at Beaucette Campervans are priced at £35 per night for July and August 2016, and £30 per night for September and October 2016.  The price includes all the pitch facilities, including electricity and water, and WiFi. There is an additional charge for the marina showers and laundry facilities.

However, getting your motorhome to Guernsey needs a bit of planning. All motorhomes need to pre-arrange a permit, which can be acquired and organised by campsites on the island. Travelling to the island with your camper is by ferry from Poole (three hours) or Portsmouth (seven hours). Campervans and motorhomes are allowed over on the ferry, but cannot exceed 7m in length, 3.1m in height and 4,500kg in weight if booking online. If your motorhome is larger than this, then you may be able to take it to the island, but need to book over the phone or at the port.

Ricky Stephens admitted that, “There’s a transport issue getting campervans to the island with the transport link but there’s still a lot of people want to come to Guernsey. The way the economics are going, people would rather spend their Pound in Britain so I think it’s (Guernsey) closer to home so the whole island should get something out of it.”
