New daytime parking for motorhomes in Blackpool
Blackpool Council has confirmed that the former coach park known as Lonsdale Road Coach Station, has been redesignated for motorhome parking. Thanks to the relocation of the coach park, the site now offers 44 bays capable of taking A class ‘vans and has a £5 tariff for 12 hours’ parking. Overnight parking, however, is not permitted
Brian Flower, parking officer for Blackpool Council said: ‘It is the aim of the Council for some time to provide parking for all our visitors and perhaps in the past there had been issues for motorhomes and motorcaravans due to the size of the pay and display bays available. Therefore we have been looking for sometime a suitable site with a convenient location.'
The site currently has no facilities, however, Brian states that depending on take-up, it may well feature hook-ups, water and toilet emptying facilities for the 2013 season.
According to David, his colleague, Russ Weaver, head of service, for Blackpool Council Parking, had been keen to redesignate the site for use motorhomes and motorcaravans.
The news follows Flyde Council's decision to open the St Annes-on-Sea car park, situated to the south of Blackpool, as a motorhome Aire, as reported in April's issue of MMM.
Brian, whose family has a history of motorhoming, will be making a site visit soon in order to create guidance notes on the use of the site. He said: ‘All we ask is that the site is used respectfully and kept tidy. We are really keen to get this initiative going and are keen to spread the word.’
