New Crafter campervans launched at Stuttgart motorhome show
Volkswagen’s all-new Crafter van made its debut in motorhome form at Stuttgart’s CMT show.
Van conversion specialist, HRZ, showed its Florida conversion – the first production camper on the new van – while Knaus debuted its Saint & Sinner concept.
The HRZ Florida has a rear lounge, with the seating on one side folding away for the transportation of bicycles and the like. The Saint & Sinner, meanwhile, is the first conversion of the new Crafter by a mass-market manufacturer, but it follows a more conventional design with a half-dinette front lounge and transverse rear bed.
The design of the new Knaus is striking, though, with red and white duo-tone paint. This is matched on the inside by equally bold red and white cabinets, while seating is in black and red. Subtle angel and devil logos link to the Saint & Sinner branding.
The basis for this rather unusually named motorhome is the Crafter 35 with a 138bhp, Euro VI engine driving the front wheels. Safety equipment includes ESP, side and head airbags, lane departure warning, a crosswind warning system and cornering lights.
On the habitation side, the Saint & Sinner features a 1.44m-wide double bed, a 90-litre fridge, a bench seat that can be extended and a galley with two-burner hob.
Whilst HRZ currently has no UK importer and the Saint & Sinner is only a concept at this stage, Knaus describes the model as providing “a glimpse into the not-so-distant future of Knaus Tabbert GmbH, which will offer the Crafter in additional extension and model versions.” Expect to see a range of Crafter-based Knaus motorhomes for the 2018 season, then.
Talking to What Motorhome, Westfalia has also confirmed it is developing a conversion of VW’s new van, while at least two UK manufacturers are also known to be planning new van conversions on this base.
