NCC approval for Numax and Lucas leisure batteries

Manbat Ltd, the UK’s largest automotive battery distributor and the name behind the market-leading Numax and Lucas leisure and marine battery brands, is now an approved supplier to the NCC, the UK trade body for the tourer, motorhome, holiday home and park home industries.

Manbat’s marketing manager, Myles Pemberton said, “Although we have worked with numerous specialist leisure suppliers for many years and hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts rely on Numax and Lucas products, we believe that NCC membership will provide enthusiasts with added reassurance of the quality of our products and our long term commitment to the industry.”

“There is no doubt that the NCC does a great deal for the industry and provides it with the framework and the standards necessary to ensure that enthusiasts and providers are both supported and protected. It is therefore entirely appropriate that Manbat is affiliated as a NCC member.

“To provide enthusiasts with the assurance that the products they purchase are fit for purpose, the NCC has a Verified Accessories Register and a Verified Component List, which is where its Verified Leisure Battery Scheme comes in for batteries.

“The scheme is designed to bring transparency to the leisure battery marketplace and help consumers select a product that’s right for them, which is why I’m delighted to announce that offerings within the Numax and Lucas leisure ranges are approved in an all relevant NCC Categories.”

The rationale behind the scheme is to provide product verification that batteries used in leisure vehicles (touring caravans and motorhomes) will perform as the manufacturers claim. In addition, the NCC is also encouraging its leisure vehicle member manufacturers to fit NCC verified leisure batteries as original equipment.

Battery verification comes following a comprehensive testing process conducted by suitably certified and audited test houses. Batteries are verified, and labelled accordingly, into three categories: A, B and C, depending on their capacity and intended purpose.

Category A is for batteries with a higher storage capacity for people who frequently use their touring caravan or motorhome away from an electrical hook-up. Category B batteries are aimed at those who frequently use sites with hook-up facilities, but require a greater battery capacity to operate devices such as motor movers. Category C batteries are for users that require a lower capacity battery to cover basic operation of their habitation equipment for short periods away from an electrical hook-up.
