SALES of new motorhomes during 2007 reached a record-breaking 11,221 units.Figures produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows sales by the end of November had already exceeded last year’s full figure of 11,069 by 150 units.
By the end of November last year, 501 more motorhomes had been registered than in the corresponding period in 2006.
The figure marks the 12th consecutive year of growth for new motorhome registrations.
SMMT Motorhome Forum Chairman Anthony Trevelyan said: “There is no question that the motorhome way of leisure is growing in appeal. With new and used sales increasing, we are continuing to attract newcomers to motorhomes in even higher numbers.
“There are a number of reasons for this. The vehicles are improving all the time, not just in design terms, but also, and most importantly, in environmental performance.”
The SMMT said sales of used motorhomes were also healthy during the year with transactions up by six per cent.
