Mercedes reveals latest Vito

de361f6e-76da-4683-a485-54d015709445

Mercedes-Benz has revealed details of the latest update to its mid-sized Vito van, which is used by several campervan converters. Among the highlights are the introduction of new four-cylinder diesel engines for the passenger version, called the Vito Tourer.

This new OM 654 engine range, which is already in use in Mercedes-Benz passenger car fleet, reduces emissions and consumption values whilst also optimising noise and vibration. This the first time the engines have been used in commercial vehicles.

This range replaces the previous OM 651 engines with the same power rating. In the smallest version, the engine produces 136bhp and 330Nm of torque. The middle option delivers 163bhp and 380Nm of torque and, in the top-of-the line engine, with 190bhp and 420Nm of torque.

Following on from the launch of the Vito’s larger brother, the Sprinter, many of the digital services offered as part of the Mercedes PRO connect system will also be made available in the Vito.

Customers will also be able to choose from four additional exterior colours, including ‘hyacinth red’ metallic from the passenger car range, and 17, 18 and 19-inch light-alloy wheels.

On top of that, there are also be functions such as Highbeam Assist Plus, new roller sliding bases for seats and Mercedes-Benz’s emergency call system and Breakdown Management function. Visually, the design of the instrument cluster has also been adjusted.

The changes to the new Vito Tourer will also see the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission being used for the first time, which replaces the previous 7G-Tronic. From autumn 2019, a manual transmission will be available. All new engine variants are equipped as standard with rear-wheel drive.

Standard safety equipment includes Attention and Crosswind Assist, which almost completely compensate for the effects of gusts of wind. Tyre pressure monitoring is also standard equipment on the Vito Tourer.

The new Vito can also be specified with the Audio 40 system, which features a 7-inch touchscreen and integrated navigation system.

The range of model available include the standard Vito Panel Van which is available in three different lengths, the Vito Mixto, which combines the best of the Panel Van and Tourer models, and the Vito Tourer, which available in three specification levels: Base, Pro and Select. It is also available in three lengths: compact (4.90m), long (5.14m) and extra-long (5.37m).

UK prices have not yet been confirmed.
