Knaus growth restricted by supply problems

One of Europe's largest caravan, motorhome and campervan manufacturers, Knaus Tabbert, is blaming the delay in parts supplies for its restricted growth this year

The company reckons it could have made and sold even more leisure vehicles if it wasn't for the problems with the global supply chain that many other industries are suffering from.

Half-yearly figures

While Knaus recorded improved growth in the second quarter of this year, it could have sold even more if it wasn't for the major delays in the supply of parts. The company sold 23.6% more leisure vehicles – its portfolio includes Knaus, Morelo, Weinsberg, Tabbert and T@B - in the first six months of 2021 compared to the same period of 2020.

It said demand for new motorhomes and campervans has not reduced, but the number of models in stock at dealers is now at record low levels.

Wolfgang Speck, CEO of Knaus Tabbert, said

At the same time, dealers' inventories are largely depleted. Our sales figures are therefore primarily driven by production and delivery capacities.

He added that, while the company is working on substantially expanding its production over the next few years, in the current year, it is faced with the challenges of Covid-related restrictions and, in particular, with problems along the global supply chains, which, he says, may continue to have an impact on its production.

The next six months

The company is looking to adapt its production to make it more flexible, as well as building up stocks for the short term, and an ongoing long-term investment programme to increase production, which was started in 2020.

Knaus continues to be very optimistic about its future, looking at innovations and sustainability. This includes the all-electric motorhome concept launched at the 2021 Düsseldorf Caravan Salon.
