Compare policies and prices when insuring your motorhome

Before your motorhome ever leaves the driveway you need to have it insured for both the cost of the vehicle and for whatever you might have stored inside. The trouble is that having a look for a quote will produce a huge number of quotes which vary depending on what level of cover is being offered. You need to cover what and where you actually use your motorhome because there’s no point in paying for coverage overseas in you never leave the UK.

The other issue is how long you use your motorhome for, because if you live in it for eight months or more, that may count as full time occupation in the eyes of the insurers, leading to a much higher premium.

Many insurance policies include breakdown cover but you need to check the small print for limitations on weight, length and height or the vehicle eligible for recovery.

The other main issues to be aware of when getting a quote are security and distance travelled. A motorhome locked in a garage or on a CaSSOA registered site will get a discount compared to parking on your drive. Adding security features like alarms, immobilisers, tracking devices can all help, provided they are by suppliers that the insurer approves. Always quote an accurate mileage covered though, because if you significantly exceed it the cover may be negated.
