Frankia launches new lightweight motorhome

1f840f00-5495-4935-a715-88ba139251ef

Luxury German motorhome manufacturer, Frankia is set to launch a new lightweight (3,500kg) model for the 2020 season.

The company has produced lightweight motorhomes before (a Fiat based range called Selection), however the new Neo model will be based on the latest front wheel drive Mercedes with an Al-Ko chassis. This combination allows the company to make a lighter motorhome for those motorhomers with only the car driving licence (3.5 tonnes limit).

There’s just one model available, the 6.98m long Neo MT 7 GD, which has fixed high-level single beds at the rear, washroom and kitchen in the middle and lounge up front. It’s also only 2.24m wide, which makes navigating busy roads much easier.

This model includes a heated double floor, as per other Frankia models. The electronic parking brake is also standard on this front-wheel drive model.

The garage under the bed comes with a large rear boot hatch and low floor, making loading and unloading of this space very easy.

The interior is all new, marring grey and white tones in a much more modern look than Frankia’s traditional M-Line and F-Line models. New LED lit panels can be found in the cab area, with further use of ambient lighting throughout.

This model also adopts the washroom seen in Frankia’s first campervan, the Yucon (only available in left-hand drive currently) see the news story here. The toilet and basin (which will be different on production models than that seen in the launch mode) are set on plinths that slide into a recess under the bed separately. With both slid out of the way you can create a large showering area.

At 3.5 tonnes, this model offers around 483kg of payload (UK specification may mean this changes), but should you want to upgrade to use that massive garage to its fullest, then an upgrade to 4.5 tonnes is also available.

There’s a big choice of upholstery, as with the rest of the Frankia motorhome range.

UK prices are yet to be announced.
