Classic motorhome up for auction

A vintage 1950 Bedford OB bus that has been completely transformed into a luxury motor home, complete with kitchen and shower, is up for auction this week at online auction house, Catawiki where it’s hope to sell for an estimated £90-£120k.

The one-of-a-kind converted bus was purchased two years ago, as a wreck, by professional coach builder and engineer Walter Bell who in 3,500 working hours, single-handedly transformed it into the world’s only 1950 Bedford luxury home on wheels. The brown and mustard yellow bus, which from the outside wouldn’t look out of place on a busy road in the ‘50s, has been decked out inside with a handcrafted American walnut kitchen, shower, Apple Mac screens, and a BOSE sound system.

No need to plod along at 1950s speeds though, the engine has been replaced by a modern 6.5 tonnes, Iveco diesel engine, which can reach speeds at over 90mph. That means you’ll need a pre-1997 license, or take extra lessons, in order to drive it.

The bus, which is up for auction until next Tuesday, has already received bids in excess of £50,000, though has yet to reach its reserve price.
