Caravan Club members choose northern England for UK holidays

Northern England has proven to be the place of choice when it comes to UK breaks for members of The Caravan Club. The number one choice when it comes to a holiday within the UK is Yorkshire accounting for almost one in three 2017 bookings (31 per cent). Neighbouring region Derbyshire attracts 25 per cent of bookings.

Famed for beautiful outdoor spaces and historic sites, the Northern regions favoured by The Caravan Club members attract significantly more bookings than their southern counterparts. Tourist favourites such as the Cotswolds and Worcestershire, the New Forest and Norfolk’s famous beach areas together account for less than 15 per cent of bookings.

Despite the trend to a Northern bias across most UK caravan, motorhome and camping holidays, members of The Caravan Club have chosen the Bristol and Avon region for 14 per cent of bookings.

The top regions are:

1. Yorkshire:  31 per cent
2. Derbyshire: 25 per cent
3. Bristol and Avon: 14 per cent
4. Merseyside: 9 per cent
5. Nottinghamshire: 5 per cent
6. Hampshire and Wiltshire: 5 per cent
7. Worcestershire: 5 per cent
8. Norfolk: 5 per cent

Harvey Alexander, director of marketing, The Caravan Club commented: ‘Members of The Caravan Club are united by their love of the great outdoors and so it isn’t a huge surprise to see areas of the UK famed for wild open spaces proving the most popular. The surge in appeal for Yorkshire this year is a significant shift in helping the North beat the South as the region of choice. With Hull as the UK’s City of Culture, Yorkshire is certainly centre-stage for cultural events this year and our members are making the most of 14 sites in the area.’
