Caravan and Motorhome Club member’s 5,500-mile charity trek
A Caravan and Motorhome Club member is hoping to complete her 5,500-mile charity walk this summer.
Commander Jane Allen – accompanied by husband and former Royal Marine Frank in their self-financed support motorhome, nicknamed the Victory Van – embarked in the walk around the coast of mainland UK in October 2017.
Starting in Portsmouth, Jane’s trek took up an anti-clockwise route, reaching Scotland in April 2018. She crossed back into England in November and entered Wales before Christmas 2018.
However, progress stalled in February 2019 when she suffered a fracture and dislocation of her right shoulder while on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Jane was out of action for ten weeks as a result, re-starting the trek at the end of April. Having reached Land’s End, she’s now heading back towards HMS Victory, in Portsmouth, to complete the circuit.
Jane served for 37 years in the Royal Navy Reserve and is raising funds for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and the Women’s Royal Navy Service Benevolent Trust.
“The Victory Walk seemed a good way of marking the end of my career, by taking on a year’s challenge and ‘giving back’,” said Jane.
