Camping and Caravanning Club invests record £7.5m on its campsites

The Camping and Caravanning Club will invest a record £7.5m on its 106-strong campsite network as part of a major annual improvement programme

Proceeds raised through camping on C&CC sites are invested back into the network every year and this year the Club has committed to spend £7.5 million on works ranging from the addition of new hardstanding pitches, to improved access roads and new on-site amenity blocks.

One such example of the improvement programme is Bakewell Club Site, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, which has recently benefitted from the addition of a new access road. Constructed over the last year, the campsite is now far easier for vehicles to access. A popular site with limited facilities, Bakewell enjoys a peaceful, rural setting while the historic attractions of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are nearby.

Bob Hill, C&CC Sites Director, said: “We’ve had a successful year that has seen more people than ever join and camp with us on our sites, which means we’re able to inject the surplus back into our sites network. That enables us to build new facilities, and improve existing ones, for the enjoyment of campers, both members of the Club and non-members.

“We know the addition of new hardstanding pitches, plus improved reception buildings and wash blocks, will be popular with campers.”

While small-scale works to improve facilities are planned at the majority of Club Sites, larger capital works are scheduled at five sites:

  • New reception buildings at Cambridge and Kelvedon Hatch Club Sites
  • A new amenity block at Horsley plus refurbishments to the on-site reception
  • New motorhome service points at Milarrochy Bay and Kelvedon Hatch Club Sites
  • An improved site entrance at Bakewell Club Site

The addition of new hardstanding pitches at Conkers, Dunstan Hill, Hayfield, Keswick and West Runton Club Sites will also mean more campers can enjoy pitching up at these sites throughout the extended camping season.
