A few issues with latest campervan conversion

File this one under the heading of do not try at home. Not unless you’re an Australian festival goer with a penchant for recycling stuff from the tip. Landscape gardener James Lawler, from Torquay in Australia decided that regular campervans were too blasé so set about harvesting scrap parts from the local tip and turning his Prius car into a mobile house. A shanty town house that is. The bizarre combination features a rusty tin roof, a stain glass window, a letter box with the registration plate on and a large chimney. The items were all acquired for under $150 (about £77.50). James explained his inspiration, “There’s a lot of boring camper vans out there. I thought this would be a little bit more quaint and Australiana with a rusted tin roof.”

James took his contraption to the Meredith Music Festival in Victoria and commented, “It’s quite well insulated in there. It’s more comfortable than a tent.” After a 100km (about 62m) round trip the local police were less impressed with the roadworthiness of the vehicle and duly issued a fine. It’s due to be dismantled but has prompted James to consider his next project: “I would like to build a caravan along the same style but a bit more water tight.”
