A feast of colour for tree-loving motorhomers
Staff at Batsford Arboretum are gearing up for outstanding autumn colour in the 55 acre arboretum near Moreton-in-Marsh in Gloucestershire. The prolonged dry period last winter and early this spring, coupled with the recent wet summer have put the collection of 1600 trees and woody plants under incredible stress, but if the conditions are right, it could well lead to amazing winter colour.
Head Gardener Matthew Hall believes the wet summer should result in a better than normal autumn. He says: “It’s been a stressful year for our tree collection trying to cope with the extremes of weather. But we’re keen to look on the bright side and truly believe we’re in for a show-stopping autumn in the arboretum, particularly from the stars of the show – the Japanese maple collection.”
