Non-Fixed Bed Motorhome
And the winner is...
... the Chausson 620 Flash (Ford Transit)
This category is one of the most open as, aside from the obvious requirement to have no permanent fixed beds, the rest is a no-holds-barred situation. This means lounge-based ’vans dominate, but A-classes and others, with their drop-down double beds were still very much in the frame to gain an Awards gong.
- Unusual in the market place, French company Chausson offers many of its models with a choice of Fiat Ducato or Ford Transit power. The Transit is arguably the superior, with a better cab environment and ergonomics and a more forgiving ride.
- The lounge is pretty radical, dominated by a forward-facing seat-belted sofa that also offer Isofix mountings for child seats.
- The star-of-the-show drop-down bed lurks above, lowering electrically (the table drops at the touch of a button too) and sliding forwards, partly into the cab.
- The separate shower is the star and remains one of the best (and biggest) in the business, at any price.
