And the winner is...
... the Hymer Van 314
Here's why the Hymer Van 314 won Compact Motorhome of the Year
Just on size alone, this bijou Hymer 314 is a worthy winner as it’s currently the shortest low-profile coachbuilt on the market. Slim too, at 2.22 metres, so not much bigger than Fiat’s medium wheelbase Ducato panel van. Hymer invented the original ‘Van’ concept and now has re-launched it in a even more compact format.
- The transverse double is approached by a sturdy wooden ladder which can be stowed out of the way on the bed during camping days. This may be a tiny motorhome, but said bed measures well over domestic width at its widest .
- The lounge is a four seater and berths number two, but there’s an in-cab stretcher bunk on the options list if you need a third.
- An integral shower shares room with a drop-down basin and toilet, while a mirrored cabinet provides very practical stowage for potions.
- The kitchen makes the most of limited space with a two-burner hob/sink combo served by flip-up worktop. Below, a 65-litre fridge and excellent drawer storage.
Judges’ comments included: ‘super Hymer quality at surprisingly sensible price,’ ‘isn’t it cute,’ ‘excellent garage and overall payload’ and ‘ a fantastic little low-profile that should be spot-on for everyday use.’
Winner: Hymer Van 314
