Rear Lounge
Large U-shaped lounge at the back of the motorhome- Lots of sociable sprawling space
- Panoramic windows to all three sides offering great views once on site
- Mostly British-built although a few Continental motorhome manufacturers have adopted this layout (Adria, Rapido and Hobby)
- Makes a double bed or some lounges are long enough to make two singles instead
- The best rear lounges use bed bases that pull together from either side to make a double
- Continental versions often come with a large fixed table which drops down to make the bed base
- No rear seatbelts
- Smaller versions can feel quite confined
ABOVE LEFT: Central drawer can replace U-shape, offering a casual dining surface for two and extra storage
ABOVE MIDDLE: Sometimes, you'll find an L-shaped lounge at the rear, offering a large picture window. This layout was popular in the early Noughties. It feels open, but the bed can be difficult to make up and isn't as sociable
ABOVE RIGHT: Twin lounge layouts offering a seating area up front, often with extra belted seats and a separate area for dining once on the campsite
